Mental health and wellbeing

  • Talking to children about illness
  • NHS Living Life is a free and confidential telephone counselling service based on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach. The service is available to anyone over the age of 16 suffering low mood, mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety. The service can be accessed by referral from a GP and you can phone the service directly on 0800 328 9655. See here for
  • Support for children and young people
  • If you’re struggling with anxiety, the NHS have created a quiz Mental health action plan which in return gives you a personalised mental health action plan.
  • In Scotland, Breathing Space is a free and confidential phone line service for any individual who is experiencing low mood or depression. They can be contacted on 0800 83 85 87.
  • In Wales, Looking Out for Each Other was launched by First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, to help people who are staying at home. The campaign provides practical guidance about how everyday tasks can be done safely, without physical contact to minimise the risk of contracting Covid-19. It also shares information about how to stay mentally and physically active.
  • Also in Wales, Helping hand is a new online hub includes a ‘helping hand’ card, which can be downloaded and put through the letterboxes of neighbours to offer help to those who are isolating.
  • In Northern Ireland, Government services have created a website about taking care of your mental health and wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Here is an educational guide to help increase awareness and understanding of all aspects when dealing with the stress of bereavement and the lockdown.
