Help raise £40,000 to fund Ataxia UK’s first paediatric centres and research programme
Your gift will not only help fund much needed research into treatments and cures for ataxia – but also help fund Ataxia UK’s first accredited NHS Paediatric Centres.
Twenty years ago it was difficult for people to find a high quality service for ataxia patients in the NHS. Ataxia UK’s response was to press for the establishment of centres that specialise in ataxia. In 2018, these Accredited Specialist Ataxia Centres in Sheffield and London were attended by over a quarter of UK adults with ataxia.
“An ataxia children’s centre would make all the difference in the world. There would be no more problems with professionals who haven’t seen anyone with ataxia before. For someone to understand what Jade is telling them about her symptoms would mean everything to us.”– Ceri
We now want to bring about the same transformation in the service provided to children and young people with the establishment of these centres run by a Paediatric Neurologist; providing expertise in the ataxias, access to an ataxia specialist nurse and other services such as speech therapy and physiotherapy. This would speed up diagnosis and ensure that parents and children receive the best possible support and a smooth transition to adult services when the time comes.
But this can only be done with your help.
Join the Ataxia UK Big Give Challenge this Christmas between Tuesday 27 November until noon on Tuesday 4 December to DOUBLE your gift and help transform the lives of thousands of young people and adults living with ataxia.
On behalf of everyone this clinic and research will help – please accept our deepest thanks to your continued support.
And from everyone at Ataxia UK: we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
