Our Mindfulness sessions are led by Lucy Holland. The benefits of yoga and mindfulness have been a constant in Lucy’s life for over 20 years and she has been sharing her experience through her teaching since 2017. Ataxia UK is a charity close to her family’s heart and she has organised several fundraising yoga and mindfulness classes. These sessions are free, with an option to donate money if you wish.

Mindfulness Resources
Our wonderful volunteer Lucy has recommended some online and app-based meditation resources. These are helpful, because they allow users to learn meditation at home and at their own pace. Some can be accessed for free but also have paid versions that offer more options:
- Insight Timer
- Headspace
- Calm
- Spotify
- Smiling Mind
- Aura
It’s important to note however that most do not offer ‘fully accessible’ resources.
Please Note: Using Zoom
Once you have completed the booking form, an email from Ataxia UK will be sent to the email address you provided. This email will contain a registration Zoom link to the session you have booked for. Please click the link and register your attendance using this Zoom registration link, and Zoom will then send you an email with the direct link to join.
It is important to make sure your email address is typed correctly and you check your spam/junk folder as it is likely it will be sent there.
About the class
These sessions combine breathing techniques with visualisation and meditation, as well as yoga “nidra” (“yogic sleep”) with stretch and release exercises, body scan and positive affirmations. Meditation can help take your mind to a place of inner peace and relaxation. It is an exercise of the entire body; neural highways, circulatory and respiratory system. The aim is to provide a “toolkit” to help deal with the challenging situations and frustrations that may arise in daily life by relaxing the body and central nervous system and calming the mind.
What you will need to take part

Wear comfortable clothes.
Find a quiet, warm place with ambient lighting, switch off phones and notifications.
Ability to focus on the practice is maximised when seated upright in a comfortable chair (including wheelchair) with feet placed flat on a support or the ground. However, the practice could be enjoyed lying down, if preferred.
If seated, a neck support or pillow may be useful plus access to another small cushion or similar.
We recommend using a PC or laptop to join rather than mobile where possible.
Please Note: Relaxation techniques may cause drowsiness so be sure to be in a safe and secure position in case of falling asleep.
