We are joined by Genny Hart, Specialist Physiotherapist from the London Ataxia Centre, to lead a session on the benefits of movement and exercise for people with ataxia (and everyone!).

We encourage you to submit any questions you have ahead of the the session by emailing volunteering@ataxia.org.uk. Please submit any questions before the end of the day on Wednesday 28 January 2026.

The session will include a presentation and exercise portion.

To make sure you get the most out of this session, please do wear flexible clothing, bring along a water bottle & towel and ensure that you are in an area safe for you to do physical exercise. You may need/wish to bring along weights/therabands. If you do not have weights, a can of beans would work too!

*Disclaimer*

To reduce the risk of injury, before beginning this or any exercise programme, please consult a healthcare provider for the appropriate exercise prescription and safety precautions. As with any exercise programme, if at any point you begin to feel faint, dizzy or have physical discomfort, you should stop immediately and consult a physician.

Join Jessica (Helpline & Advocacy Manager) and Camilla (Specialist Ataxia Nurse) for a practical session on planning for the future.

We’ll explore key topics such as wills, power of attorney, and making informed decisions about your care and finances, helping you feel prepared and confident for whatever lies ahead.

Please note: The session will address sensitive topics including hospice and palliative care, advanced directives and creating your will.

Please do submit your questions by 5pm Wednesday 28th January 2026

Join us for an engaging and informative session where we share gadgets, aids and adaptations which can help people living with ataxia to live your best lives!

As well as tips on finding the things which will work for you. There will also be opportunities to chat with our volunteers and other participants who share similar experiences.

Living with ataxia doesn't mean compromising on your dreams and aspirations. Our seminar is all about empowering you to thrive. Don't miss this opportunity to unlock new possibilities and connect with a supportive community.

Note: This seminar is open to all, including individuals with ataxia, carers, family members, and anyone interested in learning more about ataxia and the tools that can make a difference.

Please do submit your questions by 5pm Wednesday 28th January 2026

Our Mindfulness sessions are led by Lucy Holland. The benefits of yoga and mindfulness have been a constant in Lucy’s life for over 20 years and she has been sharing her experience through her teaching since 2017. Ataxia UK is a charity close to her family’s heart and she has organised several fundraising yoga and mindfulness classes.

Recommendations for the session:

  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • Find a quiet, warm place with ambient lighting, switch off phones and notifications
  • Ability to focus on the practice is maximised when seated upright in a comfortable chair (including wheelchair) with feet placed flat on a support or the ground. However, the practice could be enjoyed lying down, if preferred.
  • If seated, a neck support or pillow may be useful plus access to another small cushion or similar.
  • Relaxation techniques may cause drowsiness so be in a safe and secure position in case of falling asleep.

Please do submit your questions by 5pm Wednesday 28th January 2026
