Jeanette Fryat - Ataxia UK

In Memory Of

Jeanette Fryat

14 Jul 1934 - 25 Jun 2019

Jeanette Fryatt was the Nan of Iain Fryatt. Jeanette attended the appointment at Guy’s Hospital, to give support to Iain and his parents, when Iain was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia at the age of 9. She also accompanied them when he took part in the Coenzyme Q10 trials at the Royal Free Hospital in 2002 – 2004. In later years she would visit Iain when he stayed at the National Hospital for Neurology for his annual MDT assessment.

When they lived in Stockwell, she and Iain’s Grandad were regular visitors to the Ataxia UK offices in Kennington, popping in for a chat and to drop off their collection box full of loose change. On moving to Thornton Heath Jeanette had a collection pot installed in their local pub and promoted Ataxia UK by being involved with Pub Quizzes etc. When Iain and her other three grandsons climbed Kilimanjaro in 2014 her joy knew no bounds. Jeanette was an avid reader of the Ataxia magazine, and loved nothing more than to see a photo of Iain in there. For many years she struggled with a bronchial complaint, which she combated with her usual perseverance, determination and good humour, traits which Iain has inherited. Sadly, she had to eventually give in and passed away at the Princess Royal Hospital.

Jeanette was a great supporter of Ataxia UK, which she called Iain’s Charity, and I know would have been thrilled to know that contributions are being made in her name.

Below, you can leave a gift in memory of a loved one. Your support is greatly appreciated.
