Summary of Glasgow Roadshow
Ataxia UK CEO Sue Millman provided an update on the charity’s work and priorities, sharing what Ataxia UK has been doing to support the ataxia community and looking ahead to the work still to come.
Wendy O’Mant, Director of Services, provided an overview of the support Ataxia UK can offer people living with ataxia.
Led by Clare Maddocks from CM Music, this interactive workshop explored how music can support connection, communication and wellbeing.
Attendees took part in music-based activities, discovered practical ways to use music in everyday life and had the chance to connect, relax and have fun together.
A student Speech and Language Therapist at the University of Strathclyde, this session explored speech, communication and strategies to support everyday conversations for people living with ataxia.
Lynsay Banks from the Scottish Rare Diseases Advice Service at Citizens Advice Scotland, Natalie Frankish from Genetic Alliance UK, and Joanna McCool contributed to our Glasgow Roadshow 2026.
Their sessions covered advocacy, public affairs, lived experience and practical support, giving attendees valuable information and insights to help navigate life with ataxia.
Together, the sessions helped make the day informative, supportive and empowering for everyone who attended.
Dr Yi Shiau Ng from The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust joined us at our Glasgow Roadshow 2026 to share her expertise and answer questions about cerebellar ataxia and Friedreich’s ataxia.
The sessions gave attendees the opportunity to hear directly from a specialist neurologist, ask questions and gain valuable insights into ataxia and its symptom management.
It was an important opportunity for people living with ataxia and their families to access expert information and support.
Scarlett Parr-Reid shared the latest research updates on cerebellar ataxia and Friedreich’s ataxia.
The session gave attendees an insight into the latest developments in ataxia research and helped keep our community informed about progress towards new treatments and improved understanding of ataxia
