Great North Run, September 2026

The iconic Great North Run returns in September with it's much loved City to Sea course!

Starting in the heart of Newcastle, you’ll run the city and out to South Shields along the coast as you cross over the famous Tyne Bridge and past Gateshead International Stadium towards that unforgettable finish line feeling and post-race fish and chips!

You can run or take part in your self-propelled and assisted wheelchairs, including racing wheelchairs.

Huge congratulations to our team at the 2025 run, well done!

Hear from some of our team:

"Inspired by my mother's struggle with Cerebral Ataxia, I laced up my trainers and embraced the challenge to raise crucial funds and increase awareness. The experience was not only personally fulfilling but also humbling, witnessing thousands of individuals passionately pushing for their respective causes.

Throughout the journey, Team Ataxia stood firmly by our side, providing constant support with countdown updates, fundraising options, and valuable training tips. Their unwavering commitment, from start to finish, played a pivotal role in our success. A heartfelt thanks to everyone at Ataxia UK for making this an incredible journey!" Terri

"...The Ataxia UK team were there in support of all the Ataxia runners, in the build-up to the event, at the event to cheer us on and afterwards too. All the admin around the event was clear and really well organised throughout and made it easy to just turn up and run!” Steven
