Paid Research Communications Intern (Part-time)

Ataxia UK is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join the Research team. This is a 12-month post which is primarily focused on communicating research findings in an accessible and engaging way.  It is a great opportunity to gain science communication experience within the charity sector through a variety of different tasks, from content updates on the website, writing for the Ataxia Magazine and generally supporting the research team.

Treasurer of the Board of Trustees

The current Treasurer of Ataxia UK, Russell Brown, has announced his intention to step down from the role during 2018. The Board of Trustees have decided that the post should be filled by interview and co-option to the Board. They are looking for someone who is professionally qualified as an accountant and has experience. The successful candidate will also ideally have some previous experience of working with charity accounts.

Ataxia UK is a charity and limited company. We currently have a turnover of £1m - £1.25m pa – though we are hoping to double this within the next four years. As Treasurer you would be a Trustee of Ataxia UK and attend our five or six Board Meetings per year, mostly in London on a Saturday, but we also have one residential Board Meeting over a weekend and a meeting at Annual Conference.  Travel expenses will be covered, as well as overnight accommodation when necessary (including for a carer if this is required).

In addition to Board Meetings, the Treasurer liaises with the CEO and Head of Finance between meetings via email and telephone, and also needs to attend a few additional meetings during each year relating to budget preparation etc.
