Together, Mark and I are embarking on the challenge of L’Etape du Tour which is a cycling sportive from Megeve to Morzine (http://www.letapedutour.com). The event is separately organised and hosted by the Tour de France arranger, ASO. The sportive is on July 10th and is over 146km through 4 mountain passes.

Why are we putting ourselves through this? Well, together we hope to raise as much money for a little unknown charity that very close to my heart - Ataxia UK (www.ataxia.org.uk). Ataxia UK is the leading UK charity providing support to Ataxia suffers and funds both national and international research to find a treatment and cures to this dreadful condition. The charity is self-funded and does not receive government financial help.

There are many different forms of Ataxia and it is a very rare condition. This neurological condition which for many is of unknown origin affects people from the age of three months to 70 years of age. Many lose the ability to balance, to walk and affects speech as the patient becomes increasingly fatigued. It also takes years to establish a diagnosis.

Some of you may know that my Mum is one of those suffering from this condition. I can assure you that this condition is completely life changing as it now affects our lives following Mum’s receiving a diagnosis of “Idiopathic Late onset Spinocerebellar Ataxi”. Unfortunately, there is no known cure at this time but hopefully with your help we can change this.

Our hope is to raise as much as we can for Ataxia UK in order to support the urgently needed research. To the detriment of Siobhan and the boys, I’m putting in a lot hard work training for the event and whilst the main goal is to get through it, I really hope you can help Ataxia UK by donating.
