Just over a year ago my nephew Oliver was diagnosed with friedreich ataxia after failing a routine medical for the MOD Police.

Oliver had a dream of joining the police. He managed to get onto a degree course at Cardiff university that supports a career path into the Police. After graduating from University he got an interview with the MOD Police. After a successful interview he was offered a job on the conditioned he pass his medical. No problem he thought!!! However, he was shock to be told that he failed his co-ordination test and was advised to see his Doctor for further tests. After several months not knowing he was told that he had rare genetic disorder called friedreich ataxia which effects balance, coordination and speech.

Since his digansis, Oliver's dreams of joining the Police all but disappeared. With his family and friends supporting him he is learning to deal with it and is trying to get on with life a normal as he can. I have been inspired by how Oliver is dealing with his condition. Of course I am always there for him but I want to do something more. I want to raise as much money as I can for this charity that's supports his condition so that more research can be done and support can be given.

Please give as much as you can afford. Many thanks, Andy
