Information seminars for people with a new diagnosis (16-30's only)

10.00am – 1.00pm 3 and 4 November 2020

Are you aged 16-30? Do you have a recent diagnosis? Or do you simply want to know more about ataxia? Do you want to understand more about how ataxia affects someone you know?

All About Ataxia 16-30’s is your opportunity to hear robust information from clinicians and therapists about what is known about ataxia, and to discuss your challenges with other people who are in the same situation as you.

All About Ataxia seminars aim to give people who have a relatively recent diagnosis information about ataxia, although we know that people who have been diagnosed much longer have also found them useful. The seminars take place over Zoom. Information about how to log on will be sent out nearer the time.

They give anyone affected by ataxia (patients, carers/family members) information about the clinical and practical implications of living with ataxia. They explain what is known about ataxia, how it may progress, and what can be done to mitigate its effects.

To make sure that the clinical information we give is absolutely accurate the sessions feature videos made in collaboration with the neurologists, nurses and therapists associated with the Sheffield Accredited Specialist Ataxia Centre looking at all aspects of ataxia.

The programme will be facilitated by people with diagnoses of ataxia who have been trained to deliver the programme They will share their life experiences, and offer tips and coping strategies.

Between them they have over 60 years’ experience of living with an ataxia diagnosis! Although they all have different ataxias, backgrounds, ages and circumstances, they are all proof that a diagnosis of ataxia doesn’t mean the end of ambition or achievements in life.

We have redesigned the format of All About Ataxia to enable it to be online and split it over two half days. There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions, and share experiences in small facilitated groups with other participants.

The last edition of All About Ataxia (in October) was our first attempt to present this seminar online, and it was a great success, with excellent feedback from participants. This is our first edition aimed specifically at people in the 16-30 age group and we’re pretty certain it will be just as good!
