At this time of great concern for us all, we sincerely hope that you, your family and friends are in good health.

At Ataxia UK, we are following NHS guidance, with most staff working from home but we are working hard to ensure our work continues, indeed, all our social media fora and the Helpline are understandably extremely busy with questions and concern about ataxia and the potential impact of Covid19.

We realise that the current situation will be causing many people affected by ataxia a great deal of worry and anxiety. Staff are exploring ways to increase the support we can provide to everyone affected by ataxia during this difficult time. Our current plans are to:

- expand our Helpline opening times;
- with the expert advice of our ataxia specialist neurologists, continue to provide you with the best information we can; updating it regularly as new guidance emerges;
- organise webinars with ataxia specialist neurologists or nurses to answer questions from those affected by ataxia about the potential impact of Covid19 on them;
- seek out local and national organisations who can provide help to the ataxia community;
- along with anything else we can think of as the situation develops…

If you have ideas for other things we could do to help, please email [email protected] with your ideas.

But at this time, we must also consider the financial implications of the virus, and the potentially damaging impact on Ataxia UK’s future ability to fund research and continue to provide support to those affected by ataxia which may, sadly, be needed even more for the foreseeable future.

As you may know, over the last few weeks many key fundraising events (on which we rely for a significant portion of our income) such as the London Marathon, Edinburgh running festival, the Kiltwalks and many more have been cancelled or postponed.

Coupled with the falling stock markets and the potential for our own staff to be ill due to the virus, we are facing an unprecedented funding crisis which could, in the long term threaten our very viability.

IF YOU CAN, PLEASE HELP TODAY.

P.S If you are worried about COVID19 at all, please call our helpline on 0845 644 0606 or email in your concerns to [email protected] and we will do our utmost to answer your concerns or help you as best we can.
