Raise awareness of ataxia

In 2009 only 7% of the public had heard of ataxia. By March 2014 this figure was up to 9%. Our 2017 localised campaign in Exeter increased public awareness of ataxia as a medical condition up to 41%. We're making progress, but more work is needed!

25 September is Ataxia Awareness Day and every year we carry out events and press work to coincide with this. If you are planning a fundraising event around the day, we would love to hear from you!

We have also run a powerful poster campaign with the help of TBWA, Paul Belford & Rankin that highlights the ataxia condition to people who have never heard of it before. Feel free to download the posters here. If you have the permission to do so, we would encourage you to put them up at your work place, school, GP practice or home.

Press Work

As well as Ataxia Awareness Day, we carry out press work throughout the year. We have been on This Morning and BBC Scotland as well as appeared in The Daily Mail and various magazines, local newspapers and radio stations. In 2015, we ran a press release campaign highlighting the Ataxia 'Laid Bare' calendar. News of the story was published in 12 different publications, with a combined readership figure of 519,038! Here is a comprehensive report of the coverage if you would like to take a look.

Some of our brilliant fundraisers, such as Iain McGeachin, have striven hard to get into the press. If you would like help to gain press exposure for any event, then please contact [email protected] and we can help you publicise your activity, and assist in liaising with the press in your area.

And please remember to Gift-Aid!

If you are a UK tax payer, please complete this Gift Aid form to enable us to treat your donation as Gift Aid. This increases the value of your gift by nearly a third at no cost to yourself and we can claim back 25p in every £1 you give.
