The Headley Trust is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts and is a grant-making organisation with charitable status. It has a small grants programme providing grants of up to £2,000 to help disabled people purchase equipment for use in their own homes.

The type of equipment eligible for consideration includes, but is not limited to, electric wheelchairs, adapted computers, communication aids, stair lifts, scooters, and adaptations to vehicles - any equipment that will improve quality of life. Items such as clothing, furniture (unless it is adapted) or holidays are not eligible. Building work and medical costs are also excluded. All people with ataxia are considered for the grant.

Applications should be referred to the Trust by a third party: Ataxia UK.

Any grant awarded will be for no more than half the total cost of the equipment and will be released via Ataxia UK when funds to meet the total cost has been raised. Grants will be available from one year of the date of approval.

Applicants must be aged 16 and above.

Applicants must have insufficient personal funds to purchase the equipment themselves. Applicants in receipt of benefits, for example income support or employment support allowance, will need to provide appropriate proof of this. Applicants not in receipt of benefits will need to show that their income, after paying a mortgage, rent and council tax is £106 a week or lower.

Please fill out the attached Application Form which also includes guidelines and send it electronically to office@ataxia.org.uk or in the post to our address at the bottom of the page.
