Voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, be rest assured that the Great Wall of China provides an astonishing backdrop to take in whilst trekking. The Great Wall Discovery is a thrilling challenge of twists, turns, ups and downs.

Beginning four hours north of Beijing, this week-long challenge tackles a series of vigorous climbs over 10,000 uneven steps. Following a winding path along the Yaw Mountains to the Gubeikou Gateway, to the famous ‘heavenly staircase’, the jaw-dropping views of the mountain ranges will leave you in awe. The challenge finishes with time for you to explore the highlights of China’s historical capital.

28 March to 5 April 2020 (nine days)

Typical group size

  • 20 to 30 participants (for a group of 10 to 19 there will be a small group supplement of £75 which will be added to your final balance invoice (self-funders) or charged to your charity (minimum sponsorship or flexi).

What is included on your challenge?

  • International flights to and from the UK (including all known UK air taxes, and fuel surcharges, at the time of costing)
  • Three meals a day (unless otherwise stated in the itinerary)
  • All internal transfers
  • Accommodation during the challenge (usually in twin share - accommodation for this challenge - lodge and hotel)
  • Entrance fees to national parks or other places of interest visited on the itinerary
  • All ground staff including English speaking guide, drivers, cooks, and porters.

 

Sponsorship and Fundraising

If you’d like to fundraise for Ataxia UK, here are the three pricing options:

Self-Funding option

  • The full cost of the challenge is £1863.
  • You will be required to pay the registration fee of £395 at the time of the booking.
  • The final balance of £1468 will be due eight weeks before departure (20/07/2019).
  • You will receive advice and sponsorship forms to help you make the most out of your fundraising.
  • As you have covered the full cost of the challenge, 100% of this fundraising will be retained by Ataxia UK.

Minimum Sponsorship Option

  • You will be required to pay the registration fee of £395 at the time of booking and raise at minimum £2,995, for Ataxia UK.
  • You should send your sponsorship money to Ataxia UK as you raise it.
    • At least 80% of the minimum sponsorship required (£2,396) must be sent to the charity ten weeks before departure (by 06/07/2019).
    • The remaining 20% (£599.00) within four weeks of completing the challenge (by 20/10/2019).
  • If you have raised the necessary funds, Ataxia UK will then pay the balance of your trek cost (which will not exceed 49% of the minimum sponsorship target). Ataxia UK benefits by keeping the remaining sponsorship money and every pound over and above that you raise.

Flexi Option

  • You will be required to pay the registration fee of £395 at the time of booking. You will also be required to pay a second contribution of £395 towards your challenge costs, eight weeks before departure (20/07/2019).
  • You will also need to raise a minimum amount of £2,190 for Ataxia UK. You should send your sponsorship money to the charity as you raise it.
    • At least 80% of the minimum sponsorship required (£1,752) must be sent to the charity ten weeks before departure (by 06/07/2019).
    • The remaining 20% (£438) within four weeks of completing the challenge (by 20/10/2019).
  • If you have raised the necessary funds, Ataxia UK will then pay the balance of your trek cost (which will not exceed 49% of the minimum sponsorship target). The charity benefits by keeping the remaining sponsorship money and every pound over and above that you raise.
