Ataxia UK heads to Stirling for our Scottish Conference.

Our Scottish Conference will take place on Saturday 23 June 2018 at the Stirling Court Hotel, and is packed full of events and workshops tailored to our Scottish delegates. Read below to discover more about our programme of events, where to book your tickets and how to apply for a bursary.

What’s in store?

The conference will begin at 10.00am and run until 5.00pm, with registration and coffee opening at 9.30am.

Professor Rita Horvarth from Newcastle’s Specialist Ataxia Centre will be on the platform for our Doctor’s Q&A; research updates will be given by our Research Officer Dr Julie Vallortigara and Natalie Frankish, the Scottish representative of the Genetic Alliance, will tell us about their rare disease work in Scotland. Scottish Huntington’s Disease Association will talk about the financial advice project we are hoping to launch with them in Scotland.

Various people will be sharing their tips on coping with ataxia in our ‘It Works for Me’ sessions, and if you’re affected by a recent diagnosis, you can learn more about the condition in our ‘All About Ataxia’ breakout. There will be a yoga breakout and we hope to have someone available to provide massage.

We aren’t planning to host a children’s event or a Conference Dinner, so if you're interested in dining together on Friday evening, please indicate this in your booking.

Booking are now open. You can purchase your tickets at the bottom of this page, or call the office on 020 7582 1444 and order a paper booking form (Word doc) (PDF). Regular rates will apply from 21 May, so don’t miss out!

Thanks to a generous donation made by one of our Scottish Friends, we have a special fund dedicated to award Scottish delegates two bursaries this year, for those who are attending the Scottish Conference and the Annual Conference in 2018. Both bursaries cover 50% of overnight accommodation, transport and attendance fees.

We have a limited number of bursaries to help with travel and attendance costs, and awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Applications must be in by 1 May. Please remember that an individual can only be awarded one bursary per calendar year: if you are awarded one for the Scottish Conference, you will be unable to apply for another in October for the Annual Conference (except for Scottish delegates). Download the bursary form here or call the office to request a paper form.

All claims for reimbursement must be made in the four weeks following on from conference.

We'll be announcing your choices for breakout session soon, and be in touch to take your preferences.

There are a limited number of adapted rooms available at the Stirling Hotel and more available at several others in the local area. You  must reserve adapted rooms through Mike Garrett ([email protected]). Please only reserve an adapted room if essential, as others may be in greater need.

For all other bookings, please book directly with the hotel by calling 01786 451712 and quoting our reference number: 187106 to get our negotiated price.

Parking is free and plentiful at Stirling Court and we’ve reserved all available Blue Badge spaces. All parking is close to the hotel and there is room for drop-offs.

If you have any queries about the booking process or conference in general, please contact Steph Marley at [email protected] or call the office from the 1 February. We look forward to seeing you there!
