6 August 2007 Ataxia UK appoints new CEO
Ataxia UK is delighted to announce the appointment of Sue Millman to the position of CEO.
Sue joins the charity with a strong track record of service delivery in social care. Her last post was Director, Support, for Advance Housing and Support, a national organisation providing services (including Residential Care, Group Homes, Independent Living and Shared Ownership) for people with learning difficulties and mental ill-health.
Prior to this she spent eight years as Chief Executive of the south London-based Alcohol Recovery Project providing residential and non-residential services to people with drink and drug related problems and overseeing a tripling in size of the organisation enabling it to provide services to over 3,500 people per year.
Previously Sue was Director of Capital Housing Project for almost eight years, an agency managing supported housing projects for homeless young people in London; an Area Officer for the Stonham Housing Association (just over two years); a Day Centre worker at the St Giles Trust; and a Project Manager for the Refugee Council, working on the Vietnamese refugee programme.
Sue has plenty of experience of bodies working at national level. She has been a member of the National Housing Federation’s National Council; a four-year member of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Supporting People Practitioner Group; Chair of SITRA (a national organisation offering information, training and consultancy to member organisations providing supported housing and representing their interests to central & local government); an elected board member for Alcohol Concern; and a Trustee of Drinkline.
Sue comments: “I am delighted to take up the challenge of leading Ataxia UK at such an exciting time. The medical research strategy we have been pursuing seems to be offering real possibilities of a break through in the foreseeable future and in the meanwhile we are in an excellent position to lobby for improvements in clinical care and extend our services to people affected by ataxia.”
Pit Rink, Chair of Ataxia UK, commented: “The recruitment of Sue Millman as our new CEO marks a major milestone in the development of Ataxia UK. Our charity is on the verge of big things and with Sue’s high profile success rate, as evidenced by her career so far, I am confident that she will spearhead our future expansion in the right direction.”
