25 September 2005 - Ataxia Awareness Day

The annual International Ataxia Awareness Day is being marked in the UK on Sunday 25 September 2005. The awareness day is designed to highlight the needs and problems faced by those with the ataxias - life-limiting neurological disorders that can affect people of any age.

Ataxia UK, the leading UK charity for all people affected by ataxia, has come together with the Ataxia-Telangiectasia Society, the charity helping young people with this particular form of ataxia, to mark the day. Both groups fund vital medical research, and provide support and information to people with ataxia and their families.

The day will focus on the difficulties around obtaining an accurate diagnosis, along with the lack of awareness and understanding from the general public. The UK organisers will also be highlighting the critical need for further research.
