Charity bucks trend with 300% growth in local support
A small charity has defied the recession to increase its local branches and support groups by nearly 300% in just three years. A grant from the Big Lottery Fund allowed Ataxia UK, the national charity for people affected by a progressive neurological condition, to achieve the surge in growth. The branches and groups are run by volunteers who are affected by the condition themselves.
World’s first solar-powered flight raises awareness of little-known condition
Supporters of charity Ataxia UK, including a teenage girl, are set to make the world’s first solar-powered paramotor flight, covering the 2,000km from Monaco to Morocco, in July 2009. The flight will feature on a new website showcasing this ground-breaking adventure, as well as other incredible feats and facts.
Ataxia UK conference held in Leicester
Saturday 25th April will see a national charity, Ataxia UK, which has nearly 40 branches and support groups across the country, staging its annual branch officers weekend at Leicester University – most branches are sending delegates, most of whom have ataxia or care for someone with the condition
Ataxia UK Trustees attend star-studded premiere
Three of Ataxia UK's Trustees represented the charity at a star-studded film premiere in London this week. Part of the proceeds from the launch of the new Richard Curtis film, The Boat that Rocked, were kindly donated to Ataxia UK.
