Assisting with a GIG research project at a recent conference
As well as funding scientific research, Ataxia UK seeks to enhance the lives of people with ataxia by improving the healthcare services available to them. This is done by involvement with projects that research current service provision and advise on the best clinical practice for the management of ataxia.
The Guidelines on best clinical practice for the management of ataxia is an example of this. Put together by a team of neurologists and other specialists with expertise in the ataxias, these recommendations provide advice for healthcare professionals about the diagnosis and management of progressive ataxias.
Another goal of Ataxia UK is establishing Centres of Excellence for the treatment of ataxia. Three such centres already exist; in London, Sheffield, and Oxford.
Here is a list of current and completed healthcare research projects.
Care of Ataxia Patients Study - Ataxia service provision in the north west of England
Occupational therapy study- opportunity to participate
Facilitating Networks of Expertise (a Genetic Alliance UK project)
