Get involved

 Getting involved Skydiving

There are lots of ways to get involved with Ataxia UK.

'By sharing our experiences we can offer others hope as well as inspiration that life doesn’t have to end because of ataxia.’ Sue, Manchester branch

1. Join your local branch or group (or set one up)

Ataxia UK has a network of local branches and support groups round the country. Branches tend to be larger and are legally part of Ataxia UK. If you would like to join a branch or group, follow the link above to find your nearest and get in touch to see when their meetings are - you will be made very welcome and find lots of help and support. If you wish to set up a new group or branch, there's lots of help available.

We also have a new LGBT support group - contact Chris for details on 0782 583 5252 or email  hobsborough@live.com

2. Raise awareness of ataxia

One of Ataxia UK's priorities is to raise awareness of ataxia - just 7% of the public know what it is (2009 figures). Every year on 25 September we carry out events and press work round the country - last week we had over 30 bits of national or regional media coverage.

You can also buy some great Ataxia UK-branded merchandise to help raise funds and awareness.

3. Help us raise funds

Fundraising is vital to Ataxia UK and a great to get involved, whether it's running an event or doing a skydive. Everything helps!

4. Press work

As well as ataxia awareness day, we carry out press work throughout the year - we've been on This Morning, BBC Scotland, the Daily Mail, and in lots of magazines and local papers and radio.

If you'd like to help out with press coverage, send your details to us today! We'd love to hear from you.

5. Join in

From time to time we have opportunities to get involved in Ataxia UK - such as by joining a panel or running for the Trustee board - as well as joining other national boards and taking part in surveys. Keep an eye on our regular news feed for opportunities. If you would like to get involved in research go here.
