Forum Terms and Conditions

1 Purpose

Ataxia UK's website discussion forums are intended as a safe place for people affected by ataxia (people with ataxia, their families, colleagues and friends) to share experiences and help each other cope with day to day life with ataxia. 

Ataxia UK does not check content on the forum before it is posted, and accepts no responsibility for the accuracy, integrity or quality of such content.

The discussion forums are not a substitute for professional advice. Individual medical advice should be sought before taking, or refraining from taking, any action based on the information contained on this website.   

2 Conduct of users

Participation in, and use of, all areas of the site is at the user's own risk.

All views and information, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted by email, are individual and not the views, policy or advice of Ataxia UK. Any reference to third party organisations, their product/s or service/s does not imply endorsement by Ataxia UK.

In accordance with the Home Office good practice guide for child protection on the internet, users of this system must be 16 or over, or supervised by an adult if younger than 16.   

3 Postings and messages

Messages must not be obscene, defamatory or libellous, vulgar, sexually orientated, hateful, threatening, or in violation of any laws or good morals and practice Neither may they contain any material which may be discriminatory or offensive by reason of a person's ethnic or racial origin, sexual orientation, sex, race, religion or belief, age, marital status or disability.

Messages must not infringe or violate another party's rights (including, but not limited to, intellectual property rights, rights of privacy and publicity) nor must they breach any confidentiality to which any of the material in them is subject.

You hereby undertake to indemnify and hold harmless Ataxia UK against all actions, claims, damages, costs and expenses arising from any such actions or infringements of third party rights by you.

Messages containing contact details (web addresses, emails, phone numbers, fax numbers or postal addresses) are not allowed.

The forums may not be used for advertising any form of commercial business or services nor for chain letters or pyramid schemes neither may they be used to request any donation or payment or loan of money or money's worth.

Any member grants Ataxia UK a royalty free, perpetual, non exclusive, unrestricted, worldwide right to use all content added to an Ataxia UK forum by that member and such right shall continue even though a member may subsequently leave or be prevented from using the forum.

Ataxia UK reserves the right (but does not undertake a duty) to review, edit, remove or delete posts that are contrary to these terms and conditions or not conducive to the charitable aims of Ataxia UK.

By sending or receiving a private message you consent to them being viewed by Ataxia UK either where Ataxia UK has been notified of a problem or a breach of these terms and conditions or otherwise

4 Moderation and Banning

Ataxia UK may remove, edit, move, close or delete any message or group of messages for any reason and is not obliged to enter into any correspondence regarding this.

Ataxia UK may modify or delete any or all information relating to a user, including deletion of that user's account, without prior notice or reason. Ataxia UK is not obliged to explain its actions.  

5 Exclusion of liability

Ataxia UK hereby excludes to the fullest extent permitted by law all and any losses, liabilities, claims, damages, expenses or costs (whether as a consequence of its negligence or otherwise) arising in connection with:

  1. your use or inability to use any part of this website;
  2. any unauthorised access to or alterations of information provided by you;
  3. your use of any third party websites (including without limitation those that may be connected by hyperlink to the site);
  4. any arrangements entered into with any third party in connection with any information provided by or in connection with the site;
  5. the inaccuracy, incompleteness or tardiness of any information supplied through the service

You agree that your use of a forum is at your own risk and that Ataxia UK shall have no liability to you with respect to materials posted by others whether that material be defamatory, offensive or infringes any of your rights of whatever kind.

6 Ataxia UK's right to vary these Terms & Conditions

Ataxia UK has the right to revise and amend these terms and conditions from time to time.

7 Jurisdiction

The terms and conditions set out above for the use of the forum shall be governed by English law.  Any dispute arising from the use of the forums shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the court of England & Wales.
