Training days are an important way of increasing awareness of ataxia among healthcare professionals. Ataxia UK has helped organise two such training days in 2011; one in conjunction with the Genetic Alliance UK and one with researchers as part of the ‘Care of Ataxia Patients’ research study. The most recent event was held on 18 November 2011 in Manchester; details of this and other events that were held in 2011 can be found below.
This event was aimed at healthcare professionals caring for people with ataxia. It was also an opportunity to hear about the results of a research study which explored the views of patients with ataxia and healthcare professionals in the Greater Manchester area. This event was organised by the Royal Society of Medicine and featured talks from Ataxia UK-funded researchers and someone with ataxia.
This training day was held at Sheffield Hallam University. It was organised by Genetic Alliance UK, in conjunction with Ataxia UK and was aimed at GPs, neurologists and therapists with an interest in ataxia.
