Other ataxia research

Research funded by the European Commission

Recently, two large research networks have successfully secured funding from the European Commission.

The European Friedreich's Ataxia Consortium for Translational Studies (EFACTS) has been awarded six million Euros from for work on Friedreich's ataxia. A five month update of the project was given at the euro-ATAXIA AGM in October 2010; click here for a summary.

Another group of European researchers has been awarded 3.6 million Euros to study the function of the cerebellum. Ataxia UK was invited to the first meeting of the cerebellar cortical control research network and a report of the meeting can be found here.

The EuroSCA network has also received funding from the European Commission in the past. This group was awarded a large grant to study the dominantly inherited ataxias. For further information about this project see the EuroSCA website www.eurosca.org.
