What your money can do
We make the very most of the money we raise to help people affected by ataxia.
Here are some of the ways your support helps us.
- Funding research into:
Potential new treatments for a wide range of ataxias
Speech therapy techniques to improve communication skills
Novel physiotherapy techniques to help mobility - Creating a network of specialist Accredited Ataxia Centres around the UK
Because the ataxias are uncommon, ‘one-stop’ access to services and the latest information on research developments, as well as skilled sensitive advisors, is critically important.
- Supporting local groups
Our Branch Development & Support Officer helps families affected by ataxia to access local support, friendship and information by developing their own groups.
- Providing unique services for people affected by ataxia
In our last financial year (2005 – 2006) we spent nearly £262,000 on services to beneficiaries, including welfare grants, our Helpline, publications and conferences.
For every £1 we spent, 47 pence was for research and 40 pence for providing services to our beneficiaries (including the Ataxia Centres).
11 pence was invested in fundraising, to make sure we can continue to help people affected by ataxia in the longer term. Our administration costs were 2 pence for every £1.
