- Applications will be assessed using the following criteria:
* Is the proposal well put together and thought out?
* Is the itinerary realistic in terms of time scale and budget?
* How challenging and adventurous is the trip for the applicant?
* How much will they gain from the experience?

- Applications must be returned to Ataxia UK by 4th April 2008. The winner will be notified by 18th April 2008.

- The maximum award is £4,000 However, Ataxia UK is happy for the money to be used as part-funding if the individual is prepared to provide the extra funds to undertake a longer trip.

The Small Print

1. This award is only open to people with ataxia, plus a carer if necessary.
2. The trip should be taken within twelve months, however, it may be postponed on medical grounds if necessary.
3. The winner must be willing to help Ataxia UK to publicise the award by taking part in interviews and allowing pictures to be used in the press and on the Internet.
4. The judging will be conducted by a panel and applications will be assessed according to the criteria set out in the guidelines.
5. The budget in the application should be comprehensive and realistic.
6. Comprehensive travel insurance must be purchased.
7. The logistics of the trip are to be arranged by the winner or their chosen tour agent. Ataxia UK is not responsible for the organisation of the trip.
8. Once a person has been awarded a travel fellowship, they will not be eligible to enter the scheme again in the future. This is to enable as many people as possible to benefit from the scheme. This is a separate scheme from Ataxia UK’s programme of welfare grants.
9. Applicants must be in receipt of income support benefit and evidence of this must be included with your application.
